About NGS

The New Glasgow Society (NGS) is a civic society promoting, protecting and raising interest in the City of Glasgow, through campaigning, discussion, projects, talks and exhibitions.

New Glasgow Society is a charity registered in Scotland (no. SC009743)

Registered as a charity 13/09/1965

 

Aims

The aims of the Society are;

To promote, encourage and stimulate public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the city of Glasgow and its surroundings.

To encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in the Glasgow region in co-operation with other interested organisations where appropriate.

To encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest.

To pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, conferences, publicity and the promotion of schemes of a charitable nature.

As a child we express emotions by being a creators of imaginary worlds and friends. As an adult we so often find ourselves longing to escape to the childhood to have a time and place for just dreaming and discussion with ourselves. It is a place where you are inside yet underneath the sky, where you have to watch your feet and where your movement is free from restrictions.

Perpetual: Showcasing the Jewellery and Silverware of Vanilla Ink's 2018 Inkers

A showcase of jewellery and silverware from this year's Vanilla Ink Jewellery School's INKubator programme. 

INKubator is a 9 month initiative aimed at jewellery and silversmith start-ups to bridge the gap from education to industry. Seven 'Inkers' are now at the end of their journey, and will showcase their work in celebration.

Doors Open Days festival: Mapping Glasgow

Maps carry with them their own agenda by virtue simply of the choice of the map maker as to what to include and exclude. Each map tells a story of its origin, and there are at least as many stories of our city as there are citizens. For this year's Doors Open Days festival, New Glasgow Society is exhibiting an eclectic selection of maps of Glasgow.

My photography started at age 10, with a Box Brownie camera, recording family holidays. Later I used my father’s old prewar cameras and my Halina camera with print film and slides. I then bought a SLR film camera and eventually a digital camera.
