Veronika Desova is a Bulgarian artist who recently graduated from Mackintosh School of Architecture. She works in the medium of pastel painting and multiple exposure analog photography.

In 2018 she received the John Kinross Florence Travel Scholarship by the RSA. During her stay in Florence she undertook a research that explored the idea of ‘layering’. She is interested in the way momentary transient effects of light interact with monumental forms to form a coherent whole. Her pastel paintings are composed of elements that reveal characteristics of urban morphologies, spatial sequences and the characteristics which that sculpt the Florentine architecture. Veronika focused on the aesthetic capacity that ambiguity and uncertainty hold in such urban environment. The mystical power the city is saturated with, is revealed through observing and recording light and its relationship to form. The beauty of the unseen is represented through a prism of details and textures.
