The Briggait is all skew-whiff

I recently visited The Briggait. There's an arty thing on. I noticed for the first time that the internal iron bones of the building do not line up with the stone frontage. I have to assume that the stone frontage is original. Why, therefore, did they not insert the later iron supports in an aligned manner?  What's going  on here?
