I deeply regret being unable to attend this event to add to what I hope will be a chorus of disbelief and outrage at the peril facing Egyptian Halls, and the news that its demolition is being openly contemplated.  Any alternative to that outcome is of course worth considering, but what is on offer here seems barely to invite serious consideration.

This is not a building to subject to narrow criteria of ‘commercial viability’ nor to use as a bargaining chip: it is authentically a landmark of international stature.   I hope and trust that the City of Glasgow will reaffirm its proven commitment to conserving Egyptian Halls and reject out of hand any possibility of its demolition.  Its future development can then be considered in an open and reasonable manner and not against a ticking clock.
